It’s always best to avoid chemicals wherever possible in the home and garden, it’s healthier for us and better for our environment. So this Simple 3 Ingredient organic pest spray helps to keep the bugs at bay while also allowing your plants to flourish with the use of perfectly safe, everyday household ingredients.
You would never think that it would be so quick and easy to make such an effective remedy, but it’s the simplicity of the ingredients that protects your plants, while making them less attractive to those unwelcome visitors.
Organic gardeners have long relied on garlic a powerful pest-fighting weapon. Garlic contains sulfur, which, besides being toxic to pests, is also an antibacterial and antifungal agent. The dish soap in this mixture also breaks down the bodies of soft-bodied pests, such as aphids and the oil makes them slip off. So one way or another they aren’t going to stick around for long!
Simple 3 Ingredient Organic Pest Spray
2 tsp Vegetable oil
2-4 Garlic Cloves
Mix up just a teaspoonful of dish soap (choose a natural biodegradable brand like Ecover)in 1 litre of water with a couple of chopped garlic cloves and 2 teaspoons of ordinary vegetable oil. Allow the solution to infuse overnight and then remove the garlic before transferring to a spray bottle.
Spritz on the underside of the leaves of your summer plants to discourage aphid infestations. It’s worth spraying cautiously the first couple of times to make sure your solution is not too strong, as some plants are more sensitive than others. Watch out for any signs of withering or yellowing, and if needs be, water down the solution.
It’s also important to remember that not all bugs are pests, make sure you avoid any lady-birds and bees, as you don’t want to send them away, and be very careful where you spray.
